Thiruvananthapuram: IIT Palakkad has joined the Heritage Network as a full member, marking a significant milestone in strengthening higher education cooperation between India and Europe in the field of engineering sciences.
The membership was formally conferred during the Heritage Network Annual General Assembly 2026, hosted by Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad.
The gathering brought together academic leaders and representatives from member institutions across India and Europe to discuss collaborative research initiatives, joint degree programmes, and technology partnerships under the framework of the Heritage Network.
IIT Palakkad: Enhancing Academic Collaboration Between European and Indian institutions
The inclusion of the institution in the Heritage Network is expected to further enhance academic collaboration between European and Indian institutions.
The network focuses on strengthening research partnerships, knowledge exchange, and international academic engagement across engineering and technology disciplines.

Representing IIT Palakkad at the assembly were Sabarimalai Manikandan, Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Nibedita Dey, Assistant Manager for International and Alumni Relations.
During the meeting, the representatives delivered a presentation highlighting the institute’s academic strengths, key research initiatives, and potential contributions to the Heritage Network.
Following the presentation and discussions with representatives from member institutions, IIT Palakkad was formally voted in as a full member of the Heritage Network.
Commenting on the development, A. Seshadri Sekhar, Director of IIT Palakkad, said, “The induction of IIT Palakkad as a full member of the Heritage Network marks an important step forward in the institute’s internationalisation efforts in Europe, enabling stronger academic partnerships and collaborative opportunities in Engineering Sciences.”
With this membership, IIT Palakkad is expected to further expand its global academic engagement, enabling new avenues for collaborative research, student exchanges, and joint programmes with institutions across the Heritage Network.
